Applying to business school can be pretty overwhelming. There are many organizations that are focused to help Latinos, African American and Native Americans prepare for business school, apply, and provide fellowships and scholarships (!!). Additionally, there are many other great prep resources and events that can help you along the way. Aprovecha estas oportunidades!


Admissions prep

Management Leaders of Tomorrow (MLT) has multiple prep programs focused on supporting underrepresented minorities. Look into MBA Prep and Professional Development programs. For college sophomores, look into Career Prep.

MLT also provides you with an incredible network.

The Consortium is focused on increasing underrepresented minorities in business school and business. They have 20 member schools (including top 10 Tuck, Berkeley, Yale).

Pro-tip: You can submit 1 single application for up to 6 schools. This is a major time/effort saver. Did we mention you can get a full tuition fellowship?

Forté Foundation is focused on helping business women advanced their career. They offer an MBA prep program and many schools are now offering a Forté scholarship.

Pro-tip: Forté is great for networking with other women interested in b-school. Check out their annual conference.

Clear Admit is a good platform to find prep resources, articles, blogs.

Pro-tip: They often have a booth at MBA tours events, and you can get a free 15-min consultation on resume/MBA application plan.


GMAT/GRE Prep

The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) website is the ideal place to start when you are starting to learn about the GMAT. There you can take free practice tests, obtain practice resources and register for the test.

Manhattan Prep is one of the most popular GMAT preparation programs and it offers in-person classes as well as an online curriculum. They also have free practice tests which will come handy once you use up the free ones from the GMAC site.

Veritas Prep offers both admissions prep coaches and GMAT prep. They also offer a few free practice tests.

Pro-tip: They also often have a booth at MBA tours events and you can get free GMAT practice tests!

Magoosh is another popular GMAT and GRE preparation program, which includes video lessons, thousands of practice questions, and access to their network of experts.


Events

QS World MBA Tours is a good opportunity to meet with MBA admissions officers and alumni from top business schools. They also offer webinars ranging from financial aid to resume prep.

Pro-tip: it is FREE. This is a good event to start networking and getting a feel for different schools. Also - to get free stuff - Veritas free practice tests, prep books, etc..

College Students! In September 2018, The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management launched the Competitive Advantage: The Consortium Undergraduate Program. The new program helps URM undergrad with career exploration, identifying academic allies, and making the transition from college to work.

Scholarships

Let’s be real, business school is expensive. However there are many ways to get scholarships from organizations and schools. These are not easy to obtain and require you to be aligned to the mission of the organization- so read carefully. Solicita a estas becas! Click on the name to go to the websites.

  • The Consortium

    • Full fellowships available for individuals who support the URM (Latino/African American/Native American) community

    • How it works: you first need to be accepted as a Consortium member (based on your alignment with the mission) and later the participants schools that you applied for decide if they grant you a fellowship

  • Forté 

    • Fellowships available for women applying for business school

    • Some schools award the title of “Forte Fellow” which gives you access to the network but do not provide scholarships

  • Prospánica

    • Scholarships available for Prospánica members going into their 2nd year

  • Hispanic Association of College and Universities (HACU)

    • Scholarships available from 2nd year on

    • Needs to be pursuing MBA in a HACU university

  • University specific scholarships

    • The school might decide to grant scholarships based on your field of study (e.g. Social Impact, Entrepreneurship, Finance) or civic or academic achievement (e.g. Diversity Scholarship, Dean’s Scholarship)

    • Some schools grant the scholarships with admission and others you need to complete essays after acceptance. Check the websites of the schools you are interested in.
